Eagle Point ideas

I am looking for some new ideas or programs to try at Eagle Point.  We have been doing movie nights, dances, and student of the month for a few years now.  If you have some new ideas or programs that you would like to try, please let me know.  I'm open to suggestions and volunteers to help with new programs.   Please make a comment if you read this, even if you just want to monitor the blog and think about ideas.   Thanks.  JT

The conference has kept me very busy.  On Sunday and Monday it began at 8:45 am and didn't end until 8:30 pm.  They were very long days.  I will give you a brief summary.

There are about 270 Polish principals, administrators, and inspectors attending the conference.  Each of them attends several presentations during the day on various subjects.  The presenters are "Experts" from serveral different countries.  Most of them are professors at large universities.   To name a few of the presenters they are:  John MacBeath (Cambridge Univ., England), Grzegorz Mazurkiewicz (Jagallonian Univ., Poland), Kathleen Lynch (Dublin Univ., Ireland), Bill Gaudelli (Columbia Univ., New York), John Fischer (Bowling Green St. Univ., Ohio), WIlliam Armaline (Bowling Green St. Univ., Ohio), Frank Crawford (Chief Inspector for Scottland schools), Tony Townsend (Glasgow Univ., Scottland), Kathy Farber (Bowling Green St. Univ., Ohio), Harmut Wenzel (Germany), Jaap van Lakerveld (Norway), Doreen Uhas-Sauer (Bowling Green St. Univ., Ohio), Tony MacFadyen (Reading Univ., England),  Sharon Subreenduth (Bowling Green St. Univ., Ohio), Agnieszka Borek (Poland), Tomasz Kasprzak (Poland), Stefan Wlazlo (Poland).

School Visit in Krakow

We  visited a school on Friday, April 15th and met with the principal, vice principal, two teachers, and then had a skype session with a 5th grade class at Eagle Point.  There were not many students in school that afternoon since many of them don't take classes on Friday.  This school was a high school and the schedule could be compared to a college schedule.  Students pick classes and often come and go to the school throughout the day.

The students really enjoyed the Skype session, this was our third one with this class.  It was interesting to see the polish students talk to the Rossford students using their second language of English.   We were very impressed with their ability to speak English and we commended them on the amount of courage it takes to speak to students in another country in their language.    I will attach some pictures from the school visit and two videos.  The one video is of the Skype session, the other is the polish students saying, "Have a nice day Eagle Point."  I hope you enjoy them.

The conference began on Friday afternoon and I will attach some pictures in my next post.

I made it to Krakow, Poland

I made it to Krakow without any problems or delays.  We had an 8 hour layover in Frankfurt, Germany which seemed longer because we were so tired.  The second graders asked me to bring Flat Stanley along with me on the trip and he was able to meet a few interesting people during the journey.  His favorite group of people was the Norwegian Rugby Team that was on the plane with us.  They have a match against the Polish Rugby Team this weekend.

Today we are visiting a school in Krakow and we will have a Skype session with some of our 5th grade students at Eagle Point.  The visit will include a tour of the school and lunch with some of the staff.  We have a meeting tonight with several of the top reformers of the Polish education system along with many other people from the conference.   The conference begins on Saturday afternoon.  I hope you enjoy the pictures.  I will post pictures and video from the school visit soon.
